Part of the NJ Department of Community Affairs, the Commission's mission is to expand the number and diversity of recreational programs for the disabled, and to help ensure the professionalism of the people who run recreation programs. The Department of Community Affairs, Division of Housing and Community Resources, provides financial support and technical assistance for the Special Olympics and local recreation initiatives for the disabled. It also carries out the annual, voluntary certification program for recreation administrators and recreation supervisors.
